Product Details

This variety produces thinner, trailing stems as opposed to normal Monstera Adansonii and has a more narrow leaf shape.

Monstera Adansonii, also referred to as the Swiss Cheese Vine or Five Holes Plant, is a cherished choice among houseplant enthusiasts for its distinct, perforated leaves and its versatile vining habit. Native to Central and South America, this Monstera species has become a popular indoor plant worldwide.

Description:

  • Leaves: Glossy, dark green, and heart-shaped, with characteristic holes or fenestrations, which increase in number as the plant matures.

  • Flowers: Rarely flowers indoors. In its natural habitat, it produces a spadix surrounded by a spathe, resembling those of other aroids.

  • Size: Vines can grow quite long, reaching several feet in length, especially in hanging or climbing setups.

  • Toxicity: Contains calcium oxalate crystals, making it toxic to pets and humans when ingested.

Care Guide:

  1. Light:

    • Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions.
    • Protect from direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.
  2. Water:

    • Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
    • Adjust the watering schedule based on light conditions and seasonality.
  3. Humidity:

    • Enjoys high humidity but is quite adaptable.
    • A humidity level of 60% or higher is beneficial. Use a humidifier or place on a pebble tray to increase humidity.
  4. Temperature:

    • Thrives in temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C).
    • Keep away from drafts and abrupt temperature changes.
  5. Soil:

    • Utilize a well-draining potting mix. A blend of peat, perlite, and pine bark is a good choice.
  6. Fertilization:

    • Fertilize every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
    • Reduce fertilization frequency during the fall and winter.
  7. Pruning:

    • Trim long vines to manage the plant’s size and shape. Pruning encourages bushier growth.
    • Utilize clean, sharp shears to minimize damage to the plant.
  8. Repotting:

    • Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
    • Spring or early summer is an ideal time for repotting.
  9. Pest and Disease Management:

    • Keep an eye out for pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Utilize insecticidal soap or neem oil as needed.
    • Ensure good air circulation and avoid excessive moisture to prevent fungal issues.
  10. Propagation:

    • Propagate via stem cuttings. Ensure each cutting has at least one node (the segment where leaves and roots emerge).
    • Place the cutting in water or moist soil until roots develop, then transplant to a pot.
  11. Support:

    • Provide support (like a moss pole) for climbing, if desired. Monstera Adansonii enjoys climbing and will produce larger leaves with more fenestrations when supported.

Your Monstera Adansonii will benefit from regular attention and slight adjustments to its care in response to its growth and seasonal changes. Paying attention to its physical condition and growth habit will help you keep it healthy and thriving.
